How to Join Us


Expressions of interest or to become a Member of Fishers of Men (free to ICC Members) just follow all of the 6 easy steps...


1.   Become a member of the  Internet Chess Club  (ICC)

2.   Ascribe to our  Statement of Faith 

3.   Play a minimum of 20 standard rated games.
           (On ICC seek or accept a rated game with a time control of 20 0
         or slower)

4.    Whilst playing a  Team4545League  or a 
        Fishers of Men - Christian Group Invitational  game,

            Pledge not to:
       i.   Use (C)omputer assistance of any kind.
       ii.  Obtain outside or third party assistance. 
       iii.  Move pieces around on another chess board.
       iv.  Use notes or books for assistance.

            Let it be you and the chess board, just as 
       though you are playing an Over The Board game.


5.   Become a member of ICC's Team4545League
       (Read the   QuickGuide  for an overview of the League.) 
       The following steps will take you through "How to Join" 
       and "How to Sign Up" to play in a League tournament.



i.  How to Join
    Group: Team4545League.

When logged-in to ICC, 
      Type the Command:  g-join Team4545League  (enter)

After your request is processed you should receive a message...
 "Welcome to Team4545League. You have been added to the T4545L group channel 345. (Usually within 24 hours) To read it...
      Type the Command:  messages  (enter)

You should also see:  
"Groups: Team4545League"  in the footer section of your ICC profile.
     Type the Command:  finger  (enter)



ii.  How to "Sign Up" to Play in T46.
        (Team4545League Tournament 46)
       Sign-up for T46 from July 13, 2010

a)  First you will need to create your League personal profile.  
On the Home Page of Team4545League click on  Player Menu   initially to create your profile, and then whenever you need to update your profile.

b)  Now enter your handle name and Click on  "Create"  to receive a League password. (Usually within 24 hours)

It is now a good time to speed-read through the  Player Handbook,  which is also located on the Home Page, and become familiar with the League's procedures.

A more thorough reading of the handbook will be required
before you commence playing in a tournament.

When logged-in to ICC,
     Type the Command:  messages  to find your League password. 
Keep your password in a safe place.

c)  Now return to the  Player Menu  as before and this time login with your handle and League password.

Click on  "Update my Profile"  and fill it in. You will need to check items 7 & 8 but please  DO NOT  check any of the boxes in item 9.  You can also disregard items 10-12. Click  "Update"  when finished.




6.   Use the email form at the end of this page  and:
    i.  Ascribe to our  Statement of Faith.
   ii.  Request to join a Fishers of Men chess team.

Please fill in the form at the end of this page:
(Your "ICC handle" is sufficient.) Click "submit" when finished.

7.  Player Expectations and Commitment:
 
<><   Be reliable. More important than winning
<><   Play your best. Apologies are not required for losing
<><   Prepare if possible. Not a prerequisite
<><   Display good sportsmanship. Always

     Also:

<><   No pressure to perform. Don't fret, learn from your mistakes
<><   Relax, enjoy your game. Winning is just the icing on the cake
<><   Encourage and be encouraged. Sharing is caring
